"But they have a male prefect," Gavin said, "I'm not a female, so I don't care," he said. "I hope soon. If it's not by the ball.. I will be upset," he said, "or is that lame?"

"Well, it is close to April, so if the Head Master doesn't pick Prefects by April.... that's pretty late to choose," Gavin said.

"Yeah," Effy was a bit tired of talking about Prefects. She knew how much Gavin wanted it, but she really wanted it, too. But Ravenclaw already had a female prefect. At least Gavin had a chance.

Amira sat down on one of her couch near the fireplace and opened the letter. Her eyes went wide and she decicded she had to leave immediately. She went up to the Girls' Dorm to pack and sent Effy an owl.

Effy sat in the common room, tired, but not wanting sleep.

Cypress walked into the common room, thinking about her encounter with Gavin. Maybe I should have thought before I acted... she thought to herself. She sighed and curled up in an armchair.
Her eyes closed and she let herself drift away.

Gavin entered the common room, seeing Cypress sleeping on the arm chair. He frowned, for he liked to sit there. He thought for a moment, debating rather or not to wake her up.
