"I hadn't told him," Nyssa said getting slightly defensive. "I told Colin though and dad found the letter. He is angry that I kept another secret from him after he already reprimanded me for doing that."

"I couldn't be that much of a secret if you are willing to leave just like that," Jake said angrily.

"Jake, don't be like that," Nyssa said starting to lose her temper. "I don't have much of a say in the matter."

"How do you want me to be? You're going to leave for what... forever?" Jake asked feeling even more sick. "I don't know how you want me to act. He's not even your real father, he can't force you to go." Jake stopped himself knowing he shouldn't have said that.

"It doesn't fucking matter that he isn't my 'real father'," Nyssa said no longer able to control her temper. "He's the only father I've known so yeah he can force me to go."

If Jake hadn't been so upset he probably would have been taken aback by her language or amused at the very least that he got her to cuss. "You're a witch you should be here! You should try and stay here before you run off back to your farm." he said not looking at her, instead his eyes were focused on the lake.

"I want to be here! I, however, can't be here if my father cuts off the money," Nyssa was clenching her fists trying to keep herself calm as possible. "It isn't like I'm giving up on magic. There are schools in the US you know."

"Schools without me," Jake said under his breath as he shrugged. "I could pay. I have the money."

"That isn't your responsibility," Nyssa said. She debated whether to say the next sentence and figured that if he went there she could. "Besides what would your father say? I'm sure he already sees me as enough of a distraction from your 'future'"

"It doesn't matter what he thinks. I never listen to him and I'm not entirely sure he even knows about you," Jake said. "I don't want you to leave!"

"I don't want to leave either!" Nyssa yelled.

Jake continued to look at the lake as he sighed. A million different things were going through his mind and he didn't want to yell so instead he just kept looking at he lake trying to only focus on it as he rubbed the back of his neck.

Jake's lack of retaliation threw her off. She started to calm down a bit becoming more rational. "Maybe I can come up with a compromise with my dad. I just need to go home for a bit to get it all figured out."

"When did he say you had to go?" Jake asked thinking that he probably gave her some time at the least.

"He wants me home to visit the school next week and needs my help on the farm for a bit so I don't know," Nyssa said dejectedly.
