"Why? How long does it take for you to get home?" Gavin asked as their food arrived.

"Oh lets see," she said unfolding a napkin and placing it in her lap. "It is about 9 hours to London. Then it takes about another 8 to Boston. Then about 2 hours from Boston to my house. Then of course there is time in between."

"Wow, that's a long time. But hopefully it is worth the long wait," Gavin said as he took a bite of his sandwich. "What kind of cake do you like?"

"Oh it is. I like the trek home too. It allows me to get my story straight," she said taking a sip of butterbeer. "The question should be what kind of cake don't I like," she said with a sly smile. "The answer to that would be carrot cake. Other than that I've liked every cake I've come across."

"Carrot cake?" Gavin raised an eye brow, then his eyes widened and he nodded, "ooh, you don't like carrot cake. Okay, I misunderstood you, because I was going to say..." Gavin chuckled, "I love raspberry filling cake, only for white cake though, no filling for chocolate cake, unless it's ice cream. "

"I love making ice cream cakes. I was so proud of myself the day I figured it out. That is usually what I do in the warmest part of the summer when it is too hot to be baking."

"How do you make ice cream cakes?" Gavin asked, " I never understood how to make them. "

"You crush up cookies then put them in the bottom of a pan. Then you melt chocolate with butter and pour it over the crumbs. Then let that freeze. Then soften some ice cream and spread it over the crust and refreeze."
(Sorry I disappeared. I went to pick up my friend)

"Oh." Gavin didn't take note, but Nyssa made it seem fairly easy. "I still think you should work with my mom and I over the summer, take an internship with her. I think you would enjoy it," Gavin said. If Nyssa did take up the offer, well, he had to ask his mom first, he wouldn't mind because that would mean more time with Nyssa, even after the school year.

"I would love to!" she said enthusiastically. There were few things she enjoyed as much as baking. She would feel bad about not spending the whole summer with her family, the dynamic with them just didn't seem right anymore though. She finished her sandwich and moved her chair closer to Gavin. "I'm surprised at how crowded it still is here."

"It's always crowded here. In fact... it seems almost every place here is cramped and crowded," Gavin said and drank his butterbeer. He watched Nyssa scoot closer to him. He was unsure if it was because she wanted to sit closer or she wanted to hear him better. He tried to think of conversation. He wanted to know more about Nyssa. "What did you do when I was gone? "

"Absolutely nothing," she said with a laugh. "I was alone for most of the day yesterday. Amira went to France. I saw Effy last night but other than that I haven't really seen anyone. How was your visit back home?"

"Why is Amira in France?" Gavin asked. "Oh my visit back home was great. I saw my dad, of course. And we all went to the beach. It wasn't a real beach, one with warm sand and waters, it was a rocky beach with a light house. It was windy. The water was cold. I didn't go swimming of course. But the air was salty and it was cool for the while we were at the beach," Gavin said, wishing he was back at the beach.

"Amber Smith asked both Amira and me to go home with her. I turned her down though. This is more fun than France," she said making a face at the word 'France' "That is the only type of beach I've ever really been to... the only type of beach worth going to in my opinion."

"Why did Amber ask you and Amira to France?" Gavin asked, almost in a snotty way. "I don't get Amber sometimes," he said, "she'll be all civil and such to people, then becomes a major-" Gavin stopped himself, he cleared his throat, "she becomes pro-other house members, then becomes anti-other house members. It's strange," he said, then shook his head, "enough about her though... back to us! I think that too. The only beach worth going- no, I take that back. Any beach is amazing. The water is great."
