Gavin started to gently kick water around, but away from Effy. "Have you talked to your family lately?"

"Not really," Effy said, watching the water, "I sent a letter back when we first got here, just to say that I'd arrived and everything was going fine. But other than that, I haven't been in contact with them. I don't mind, though."

"Do they send you letters?" Gavin asked. Ever since he's been at Hogwarts, he has been writing back and forth to his father. "Are you dependent from your family? Or are you just not that close...?"

"No, I guess we're just not that close. I used to be fairly close with my mum, but then she got remarried and is really into my step dad. I don't mind though, I like just being here, you know?"

Gavin sighed, "Yeaah, that happens," he said, commenting on the marriage part. "I don't know anybody who doesn't like Hogwarts. Coming here was hard at first. I was confused and I got home sick a lot."

Gavin looked over at the sun, which was setting, then looked back Effy with wide eyes. "Wait, it's Tuesday! Shouldn't we be at the room of requirement?!"

Gavin looked over at the castle, wondering if anyone was there, waiting for anyone. He then looked back at Effy, "sure," he said with a small smile. "It is nice to stay outside. Who knows when the next ban will be..."

"Yeah..." Effy thought about recent events. She hadn't heard much since the night they had spent in the Great Hall. "I haven't gotten to spend much time outside. The Dementors really bother me."

"Only time can tell. I don't think they'll be leaving any time soon though," Gavin said and walked out of the lake, feeling his feet get pruney. He dried his feet and put on his socks and shoes again, sitting on the grass.
