Draco wrapped an arm around Pansy's shoulders and began walking with her again, "Pansy, I appreciate more than anything that you would talk to her, and I don't want more. I just want to know how you really feel.. I mean, hearing it from everyone in the dorms is different than hearing it from you. I don't want to constantly be a source of pain, or the source for your down trodden moods. I want you to be happy."

Pansy was confused again. She stopped walking and looked at him. "You hear what from everyone in the dorm? I am really confused because I honestly do not know what you are talking about. Why were people talking about me?" She frowned wondering what had been going on in the common room.

Draco ran a hand through his hair, "I don't even remember how we got onto the topic. I think it was when you left suddenly. Pansy, do you really fancy me that much..?"

Pansy froze. "They were in the common room talking about how much I fancy you?" She was going to kill them all if she didn't die right here on the grounds. "Draco..." She closed her eyes and nodded. "I guess. In fairness you never asked me that directly..."

"If I say yes you're going to freak out and not talk to me and make things weird. I'm going to lose my best friend." She looked at him. "You want everything to be direct, Draco, but... I told you I didn't want to lose my best friend." She took a breath. "Yes, I do and I am trying not to. I can't just switch things off it isn't that easy no matter how much I wish I could. I got my hopes up and then..." She turned to face the lake. "I am trying so hard. Why couldn't people just keep their mouths shut?"

Draco held Pansy's face in his hands like he had done so many times, "Pans.. You won't lose your best friend. In fact, you're very secretive when you want to be to have hidden it for so long, that or I'm especially thick when it comes to girls. I'm sorry. I'm sorry if I led things the wrong way and it may have led you on. I'm sorry for not seeing it sooner. I'm sorry for making it more difficult. You do understand that you have all the time in the world and I'll still be here, right..?" He released her face and shut his eyes while tilting his head downward tiredly, "I didn't mean for you to have such a rotten time."

Pansy walked up to him and pulled him into a hug. "Please don't apologize. It isn't your fault you don't feel the same way and yes you are a little thick but I also didn't want to tell you because I didn't want this exact thing to happen." She sighed. "You are everything I grew up wanting and I put you on a very high pedestal. Everything just happened all at once and then you moved on from something you weren't even in to start with. I'm not making any sense but it just hurts and I'm trying. Sometimes though I just can't be around you but that doesn't mean I'm against you. I know you think that at times. I'll shut up now..."

Draco slowly returned the hug. He laid his chin on her head softly. "You're one of the only females in my life that makes sense, Pans..." He fell quiet, starting to rock back and forth while he held her, "As long as you're not against me, or you don't hate me, I'll never leave you. I understand you can't be around me sometimes, and I don't expect you to be around me all the time. You're your own person, and I love that in you."

She laughed. "I know that, but can you stop getting disgruntled every time I leave a room without acknowledging you? I don't particularly enjoy your present company for what should now be even more obvious reasons, and if you mention that I will hex you." She threatened. "I'm never going to be against you or hate you. That's not possible." She pulled away. "Enough about all this, alright? You know - and apparently so did everyone else.... Want to hear about Griffins dream?" she asked trying to move on quickly.

She started laughing even more clutching her side. "I can't breath." She took a minute to calm down. "Oh, it's reoccurring but it's not about your death. Remember that night you carried him to the dorms?"
