"I would talk to the Headmaster, see what he says. It takes more than interest to get in," Gavin said to Charlotte.

"Really? I would love it if you would," she said. "I'd definitely like to try, at least." She wondered if she was cut out for it.

"I would try to. The Headmaster would post a notice first for other people who are interested but I would try to stand out and show you are prefect material. Now I'm not saying stay out past curfew and tell students to get to their dorms, but arriving back to the dorms on time, being kind to students, things like that." Gavin listed few samples of what Charlotte could do, but he knew Charlotte would be a good candidate for female prefect.

"That sounds reasonable enough," Charlotte said. "I'm not sure how well I'd be able to take away points, though. I think I'd want to at least give students a warning. I wonder who else would want to be prefect?"

"Oh, how house points work, you don't take away so much," Gavin said, "you send a letter to the Headmaster or Professor McGonagall, saying who you took the points away from and why," Gavin explained, "I'll normally give ten to fifteen points away for breaking curfew and I add on five to ten if they argue or talk back."

"Oh, okay," Charlotte said, beginning to understand more about how the system worked.

"You have to be fair with your own house too. If you see them breaking the rules, you have to confront them." Gavin said, "and you can't be as harsh to another house. People might be mad at you, but the Headmaster trusted you with that position."

"Yeah, that makes sense," Charlotte said, thinking more about it. "Do you patrol often?" she asked him.

"I don't go past a certain time because that is for the professors," Gavin said, "I'll mainly do the insides. If I see that my classmates are in here I stay behind."

"Mhm-hmm," Charlotte said, she couldn't think of any more questions at the moment. She hoped that she could be a prefect.

"If you really want to be a prefect I can put in a word for you," Gavin said and looked at Charlotte, "I can see you want it ."

"I really think that I would," Charlotte said to Gavin, "And I would love it if you would do that for me. Let me know if there's anything you'd want in return."

"Don't er..." Gavin tried to think of something but shrugged. "I can't think of anything."

"It's not big deal. Just doing the job as a friend, classmate, and prefect," Gavin said to Charlotte, "you are in no debt."
