Jake started to say something and stopped himself. Maybe he didn't want to know the answer. "Never mind, not important," he finally said.

Jake chuckled at her response. "Not really, because I don't believe you but here it goes. The other night when you came here Ron told me you were here and I, being the idiot that I am, ran here as quickly as I could. You were asleep.... so I left. I was - I want to know... do I even have a chance? I don't want you to have to decide anything right now. I know you aren't ready but I want to know if I even have a chance," Jake said closing his eyes scared to hear the answer.

Nyssa sighed, so that is what had been bothering him. She took Jake's hands in her own and leaned her forehead against his. "Of course you do."

Jake felt slightly better than he had before. "Can I say one more thing and then I promise you'll never hear another word about it again?" This thought had been circling around in his head for days.

Jake took a deep breath and started, not looking at her. "It's hard to have my chance when I have share my time with someone who already had a first chance and blew it. I don't blame you, I understand this is a messed up situation. All I'm saying is that it's hard because I care so much about you and don't want you to get hurt," he said, feeling better that he'd let this thoughts out.

"You didn't put me in this situation so you have nothing to be sorry about," Jake said. "I know you feel differently but all I see is you getting hurt, scared, or crying. I'm done now, I won't talk about it anymore." He squeezed her hand.
