Alice noticed that she was standing over him and promptly sat whilst making sure her skirts were straight. "Ah, I see." She paused, "So, you've never eaten anything that has been part of the bug food chain?"

"I don't care about the bug food chain. I specifically do not care about the life of one butterfly. This is what I was saying." He yawned and watched her take a seat.

Alice shrugged, "Well, you should. I prefer to look at the world in a circular manner."

"And I prefer to look at it not in a circular manor." He looked at her and then to the lake again as if waiting for the squid to make an appearance.

Alice looked at him side ways, "Then how do you look at the world?"

"I stay out of everyone's way until it directly effects me. There are things that have little significance in my life." He shrugged.

Alice sighed, "I meant philosophically. What is your philosophy about life?"

"Self preservation." He shrugged again. "That's the best I've got."

Alice sat back onto her elbows and blew her hair out of her face. "That's boring. I mean, it is useful, but I feel as though life should be about more than merely surviving."

"I am a very boring person and in my life it is merely surviving."

Alice pursed her lips in frustration, "That's a boring way to live."

"I'm sorry but I did tell you I was a boring person..." He trailed off smiling at the look on her face.

Alice didn't quite know how to respond. "I, you." She dropped her head back, "Fine. Be boring."

"Thank you. I quite like being boring but it makes it so much better with your permission." He smirked.

"Whatever makes you sleep better at night. If gaining my permission is the security blanket that you need than so be it. Do you want my permission for anything else?" Alice asked sarcastically, which was unusual as she was not a very sarcastic person.
