He set his book down and wrapped his arms around her. "Maybe he was lonely."

"He wasn't lonely. He would have cuddled you or me if he was. He wanted food." She rubbed the spot she'd been pecked. "He's probably off to sucker someone into feeding him." She smiled before cuddling up under his chin. "So I believe you have a surprise for me?"
