"Reading what Miss Nyssa?" Blake lifted his feet onto his seat and hugged his knees, "I've done nothing but attend class, eat, the usual things a human does when at school. I wish it was nicer so I may go to the lake and dip my feet in, eat some fruit.. preferably apples and strawberries.. and just have a peaceful few hours with people, like yourself."

"That would be nice," she said with a sigh. "I've been reading this." she said handing him her copy of The Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier

Blake took it and opened i up to where he could find a synopsis, reading through it and smiling further by the second. It sounded fantastic, and like something he could actually believe in if the author was convincing enough. He handed back to her, "A city where the recently departed reside until the living forget about them? I'll have to read it sometime."

"It is quite interesting," she said. "It is written in a strange manner but it is still good."

"Strange how? Is his rhetoric strange or is it just.. more contemporary in style?" He shifted in his seat curiously, chin on his knees and a hand clasped around the opposite wrist as his arms stayed wrapped around his legs.

"It is strange in that what I've read so far there is no character you are following," she said. "He mentions a lot of different characters and gives them a fair amount of backstory but there isn't a main character so far."

"No character at all? Maybe that's to give the atmosphere and tone of the book a more universal feeling?" That was very odd to hear, since every story has a hero, a bad guy.. the average guy, the man against nature, someone to follow and learn from. Blake watched Nyssa intently for an answer.

"Not one that is any more important than the others," she said. "There might be one later on though. I'm only 30 pages in so far. But most books I have read have usually pointed out the important character by now."

"Well, most books have pointed one out by the end of the first page. A character is like a thesis in an essay, they're the spine and skeletal structure of the book." Blake nodded and blew his hair out of his face, unclasping his hand from his wrist to uncurl and to tuck his hair behind an ear. "Do you think there's anything we can do to keep you entertained? I could go to the library and get you some different books, or get your assignments from your professors."

"I'm all set I think," she said. "I have my knitting even if I finish my book and I sent owls to my professors. Thank you though."

Blake beamed and nodded, looking around for the time but unable to find it. "Do you know, by chance, what time it is Miss Nyssa?"

"Sometime around 1pm I think." she said. "I heard the chime not too long ago."

"One PM? Already?" He debated with himself and knew that the last few classes of the day were.. important, if you looked at them like they should be viewed. "I have to go to class," he was late, "but I'll try and come visit you again Miss Nyssa!" He stood and leaned over the bed to hug her, pecking her on the cheek and taking his bag, "Please get well-- well, released, soon!" With a wave, he left and wished he could have stayed longer.

She hugged him. "Have fun at class. I'll let you know if I get out of here," she waved goodbye. She looked over at Gavin who had been unwrapping his presents. She smiled at him enjoying his day in his own little world.

Nyssa drifted to sleep while Gavin did his homework. She was happy to have his company.
