Haha, it's just that this is supposed to be taking place in Scotland and by Scottish common law it is pedophilia. Just trying to stay to canon. In addition, the cognitive development differences would not be stable enough.
I know it's rp, but being a future educator this thought really creeps me out. The thought of one of my junior students dating a seventh or sixth grader is terrifying.
I've never read that, what is it about?

I can't say much about the whole cognitive differences because I didn't act like a twelve-year old when I was twelve. Just cause someone's young doesn't mean that they can't act years ahead of their own age either.
Also, Lolita is about this old guy who falls in love with a twelve-year old girl, coincidentally.

I've said my piece when we spoke privately.
Lolita is a novel by Vladimir Nabokov that explores the taboo and controversial subject that is the age gap between two people, in this case, a middle-aged man by the name of Humbert Humbert and his obsession, a 12-year-old girl named Dolores Haze.

kajndsfkajnsfa, that is soooo nasty. And cognitive development has nothing to do with acting a certain way or being mature. Lol, It's well. Um. Have you ever studied Vigotsky or Piaget? It's more of the development of mental processing structures and a view beyond egocentricism. Sorry, psychology nerd. I don't doubt that some are more mature than others, but it is always to a point.
Blake, as I was talking to Freya and not you I wish you would respect that. She and I are having a nice discussion I would say.

Hrmm. I don't remember much about any of the psychology I studied about. The name Piaget rings a bell but the other does not, sad to say. I remember cognitive development is how much a person can comprehend/perceive? I think. I'm not sure. ):
I'm going into graphics so it was one of those "I'm gonna take it in and then regurgitate it for the test and never use it ever again" type of things.

I think it's just my course of studies is heavy in classes about childhood and adolescence psychology. This is possibly why I have such a high aversion to this. From my knowledge this really doesn't work and can even be dangerous. I know it's not real life, but there are real life situations such as this and the real life implications are teeeerrrifying.

I'm going to step in here and point out that this is not the place nor time for a debate about morals or what is considered right. As this is my board and I have not made to stop the two from being together it should be apparent that I have no problem with the relationship.
Also, Blake is not twelve, he is thirteen, just to set the record straight.
I would prefer this conversation not come up again because should I have problems with something I would put a stop to it immediately and would not let something carry on as it has. We all have personal morals and beliefs and I am sure no one here means to offend but again, it is my board and I will allow what I choose to allow.
Any further discussion about the book should please be moved to PMs or to the general thread or a book discussion forum.
Thank you, Headmaster

Popping my head in as the resident biology major... brain structures are different before the age of 15 or so and then changes again in the late 20s for males. Just saying that cognitive development is a biological process and has nothing to do with maturity.
Not taking sides just throwing out some info

Draco Malfoy is in a relationship with: Absolutely no one. Past relationships: Freya Coeus.
Brookes: No bloody way in hell, heaven, or anywhere you mad woman. But hey Potter, if things with Mahr don't work out maybe you and I can stir a little controversy of our own.
